RAMSCH^3 (Putz / Forciniti / Schuster / Bethge) + Joss TurnbullThis evening will be a double concert featuring RAMSCH^3 and Joss Turnbull.
RAMSCH^3 is an audiovisual concert format that explores modes of communication between drums/objects, modular synths, prepared violin & overhead projection visuals. The german word ramsch stands for useless, possibly outdated, expendable objects. Not only is this rummage being used in the performance itself; it also serves as the conceptual backbone of the performance. Thus, uselessness, exuberance, unintentionality and decay are made vivid for the eyes and ears, traversing a thin line of associations while maintaining a clear trajectory consisting of sketched and improvised passages alike.
Ronja Sophie Putz – violin, prepared violin
Isabella Forciniti – modular synths
Raphael Schuster – drums, ramsch
Katrin Bethge – overhead projector visuals
Joss Turnbull is a percussionist in the widest sense of the word, using rhythmic dynamics to invoke a sense of vertigo and vibrating vastness. The traditional Persian drum zarb is electrified and becomes the leading voice of a percussive
symphony, shaping constantly growing and decaying tension. Through unorthodox instrumental extensions such as rubber balls, tremolo sticks, chains, and live sampling, he creates acoustic spaces that are both minimalist and overwhelming. He stretches and destabilizes rhythms, distorting them almost to the point of disappearance between restraint and release.
Joss Turnbull – tombak, live-electronics, voice, objects
